Message from the Dean

The Graduate School of Pharma-Science is a four-year doctoral program for the Division of Pharma-Science, which has been established as an extension to the six-year education program of the Faculty of Pharma-Science. At this graduate school, students are given the opportunity to further build upon the knowledge and experience they gained in their undergraduate education with the aim of training human resources who (1) have advanced research and educational abilities and will become leaders in drug treatment in clinical settings, and (2) possess the knowledge and skills essential for the development of pharmacy and who can play a leadership role in areas other than clinical practice, such as university education, pharmaceutical administration, or in the pharmaceutical industry.

In order to train human resources corresponding to (1) and (2), we offer two courses, a clinical pharmacy course and a pharmacy course. For the former, pharmacist qualifications are required for admission, and after admission, practical training will be held for one year at the pharmacy department of the School of Medicine Hospital. The latter does not necessarily require pharmacist qualifications if the student has an understanding and interest in medicine and pharmacy, and human resources with solid foundational abilities in a wide range of pharmacy fields are accepted. In both courses, students are assigned to the laboratory, conduct special research on pharmacy subjects under the supervision of an academic advisor, and write a dissertation. Through these experiences, we promote the development of problem-solving abilities and a mindset for research, and train independent researchers [doctors (of pharmacy)] who have acquired high research abilities and specialized knowledge and skills.
