On Monday, September 30, 2024, a class on "Regional Policy" taught by Associate Professor Akira Pakui Faculty of Law Department of Political Science, Teikyo University, featured three guest speakers who are staff members in charge of child and youth support at the Children's Happiness Division of the Children and Families Department of Hachioji City.
This class covers a wide range of policy theories and practices implemented by various government agencies and resident groups, and this time we learned about Hachioji City's support for children and young people based on the "Child and Youth Development Support Plan," which was the first city in Tokyo to receive the "Japan Childcare Support Award 2022." In addition, students participated in a survey during the class to ensure that the voices of young people are reflected in the "Second Phase Child and Youth Development Support Plan," which is currently being formulated.
Our students sympathized with the initiatives Hachioji City is aiming for, and some seemed to be paying attention to the next plan, making this a valuable opportunity to broaden their horizons for the future. We will continue to invite guest speakers who are active on the front lines of urban development, and while learning about on-site initiatives, we will cultivate our knowledge and aspirations to realize a rich local community.
