Dr. Yuji Tanuma?

What kind of teacher?
What kind of teacher?

Completed the master's course at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Graduate School of Graduate School Engineering, Tohoku University in 1980. He has been involved in the development and design of turbines for power generation, and has been in charge of lectures on fluid machinery at many universities. We also cooperated in the industrial use promotion project of the K computer supercomputer. He has been in his current position since 2010.

WHAT ARE 17GOALS OF SDGs?
WHAT ARE 17GOALS OF SDGs?

Overall optimal energy design Various power generation requires a steam turbine for power generation. Dr. Yuji Tanuma designs and simulates turbine blades and studies the value of energy that will support (change) the future.

The introduction of renewable energy is progressing all over the world, but the issue is "stable supply".

Renewable energy using solar and wind power is affected by the weather and climate, so stable supply is difficult.

In photovoltaic power generation, it is desirable to optimize the power generation method y method as a whole, such as using geothermal power generation and biomass during peak hours from 16:00 to 19:00, which cannot be countered.

The peak demand for electricity is from 9:00 to 19:00. If it is sunny, sunlight can be used, but at present, the output of thermal power generation is increasing after the evening.

Professor Tanuma is conducting research on steam turbines for power generation that expand the performance and operational range of power generation systems.

In order to develop a turbine that can be used even under adverse conditions and expand the operational range of the turbine, we will improve and research the blades of the turbine.

There is also a need to develop small and medium-sized steam turbines for geothermal power generation and woody biomass.

Small and medium-sized steam turbines are required for power generation using geothermal heat, woody biomass, and waste incinerator heat. High-performance design is difficult when it becomes small, so it will be a technical issue in the future.

Renewable energy is easier to utilize in rural areas, and local production for local consumption of energy is the best.

Renewable energy that uses the power of nature has potential only in rural areas. When combined with a supercomputer center, it is possible to supply energy in rural areas and foster industrial promotion.

In order to realize a sustainable society from the aspect of energy, it is important to have an overall optimal design that combines all power generation methods.

At the university, we are conducting research on simulation of turbine blades for renewable energy power generation in collaboration with researchers and companies from other universities. We expect the participation of students from a wide range of fields, regardless of faculty.
