Overview of the center

Center philosophy

This center aims at the development of medical mycology widely. As part of this, we are working on continuing research, improving education, and actively engaging in international exchange.

Background of establishment

This center was established in 1983 as the research institute of Teikyo University School of Medicine, with Professor Hideyo Yamaguchi as the first director, based on the idea of President Shoichi Okinaga (at that time). In 1984, we joined the Japan Microbial Strain Conservation Federation (currently the Japan Society for Microbial Resources Conservation) and are promoting conservation activities for useful fungal strain resources to this day.
In 1992, it was reorganized into the current form of the Teikyo University Institute of Medical Mycology (TIMM), and became the Teikyo University Medical and Fungal Research Center. Then, in 1995, the English name of the center was changed to Teikyo University Institute of Medical Mycology (TIMM). ..
Hiroko Okinaga, Vice President, has been the director of the center since 2021, and 2023 will mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the center.
